Hi all.

Has anyone ever used limewire? If so, how's it work with jaws? Did you need any scripts?

Thanks.

Jen

Well, it's been a while, but JFw didn't work too well with Limewire before, and it was to the point where even the graphics weren't labellable. lol So...

Ah ok.

Thanks.

I tried last year to install limewire, but jaws wasn't working even with that. So that's why I was curious to see if anyone had any success.

Yeah, gotta love the programs that have tons of graphics and no lables! Yaaaaaay for inaccessible programs!

Post 5 by BaritoneAu (Regular Zoner) on Thursday, 21-Dec-2006 13:21:24

It's a shame Limewire isn't accessible, because it's very popular and there's lots of material on that system.

However, Limewire uses Java, which is almost inaccessible with JAWS!

Perhaps you could squeeze some use out of it by installing the java access bridge?

Both eMule and soul seek are accessible, and there's always a host of bitTorrent clients.

I haven't heard of soul seek. Where can I get it?
Thanks

Hey,
How do I search for music on that site?
Thanks

Jen

Post 11 by jmbauer (Technology's great until it stops working.) on Saturday, 23-Dec-2006 13:22:48

You don't search slsknet.org for music; the searching is accomplished through the interface of the soulSeek program, and encompasses the soulSeek network. You'll have to use your jaws cursor to locate and left-click on the 'search' tab. Once that's done, everything is quite accessible. You can then use the 'window' menu to cycle between your searches, transfers, etc.
I think jfwlite.com might even have a script set for the program, but don't take that as law.

After sitting up one night so determined to get limewire to work on my vista machine, I have a question if anyone uses it. I love it and find loads of rare stuff that I like but how can I browse other peoples files? Any suggestions would help.

I wouldn't touch limewire whatsoever. So many viruses and spyware.

Ok I have been using it forever and have been fine since I bought it.

As a computer technician who works with computers for a living, i strongly recommend that you do not use LimeWire. That program basically creates a freeway for viruses, spyware, and all sorts of fun things that can totally wreck a computer.

The article titled Why Using Limewire is Discouraged gives more insight on the subject. This article is a must-read for anyone who is considering the use of Limewire, just in case the software can be made usable by the blind. I would not know personally about the usability of this software because I do not want to take the chances of ruining my computer, especially after I've seen the dammage it has done to tons of clients' computers.

I agree with GW. If you're not tough as far as computer savvy and how to avoid the nasties, have a strong and I mean strong virus program I'd leave it be. The issue is that "I want that song" so people ignore the warnings sometimes that the site, their computers, and all give them. I've had people shut down their virus programs to get stuff. Smile. Napster is accessible, and cheap, and virus free completely. I am not advertising for them, but it is clean, and will work for you. But if you must pay some money for a good program and also a good firewall program. The freebies won't cut it! Also pay attenchen to what they tell you. Smile.

Um, what? the freebie virus programs won't cut it? um, right. I've never seena good virus program that I've had to pay for. I always use free ones, and have never had any trouble.

Post 19 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 08-Oct-2009 0:28:43

Honestly some paid ones are no good either. These are only as good as the people that keep them updated, but with a good quality paid one you are a bit surer that you'll be up to date on the latest and greatest. Sometimes you never have a problem you can see or notice, but your computer is actually a server slave sending out junk email, or your personal data, if you keep that sort of thing on a computer connected to the web is going out to people that can use it. Now if you don't have that sort of thing then your good, and if one day you don't want to wake up and your hard drive is clogged and your system is slowed to a stop then use the best you can get if you subject your computer to random hits by using sites that may cause issues. This is only my personal opinion.

First off like the tech savy people said unless you know what you are doing and know how to use things like file sizes to make a educated guess as to what to download based on what you are looking for and scann stuff before you open it, and set windows to show you file extensions and stuff like that .. stay the hell away from limewire and other such peer to peer file sharing sites. Despite the virus and other crap floating around out there there is also alot of crap watermarked files out there for the songs you want as well. As for free vs paid AV and firewall.... T there is good free stuff and crap paid stuff. The reason why they can give you a free antivirus and still make money is because they sell a corperate produc and thats how they make their money. The only real difference between a good free anti virus and a paid antivirus is a paid one may scan your computer a little faster, and thats about it.

Post 21 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Saturday, 10-Oct-2009 10:22:00

Really? Comparing your statement to norton antivirus, isn't that thing slow as hell and scans really slow, inaccessible and a resource hog?

Post 22 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 10-Oct-2009 17:44:34

Even the free ones sale upgrades. Some paid ones are no good either, so get user reviews, cnet.com is a good site for this. Even a good paid one can not work if you don't use it correctly, and Norton is a good product, just it is slowing on machines that have low ram or processing power. I change mine depending on who's doing the better job this year. I stand by my statement a good paid is best if you are subjecting your box to sites that may and will throw nasties your way. Smile.

Post 23 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 11-Oct-2009 2:34:14

norton av 2009 has actually been getting alot of good reviews and people are saying that they are changing their ways as far as the a AV part of it goes anyways. and slow scanning isn't necessarily a good thing, Microsoft security essentials scans slowly and it seill ge good reviews and some see itas aplus because it scans more throughly.

Post 24 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 11-Oct-2009 2:35:23

and besides no matter how "good" your av is its your second line of defense not your first.

got limewire fixed.

Post 26 by TheLeslieThing (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Monday, 19-Oct-2009 20:47:24

I've tried to use lime wire. It does not work well with screen readers.

Post 27 by UnknownQuantity (Account disabled) on Monday, 19-Oct-2009 20:47:47

I tried Lime Wire with no success, but I will have a look at SoulSeek.;.

Post 28 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Tuesday, 20-Oct-2009 21:15:26

I've tried lime wire only once, and didn't like it at all. I could install it okay, but after that, completely inaccessible. That's why I just stick with torrents.

Post 29 by b3n (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Tuesday, 20-Oct-2009 22:26:50

I make a fair bit of money from stupid people who install limewire. You might be getting all your music, films and software for free, but you pay the price when you have to get your computer fixed but you can't pay because your bank account just funded a mail order bride for a russian hacker.
@25, by fixing it, do you mean uninstalling it?

I bet no one can tell me an advantage of using limewire over other methods such as torrents.

As far as av's go, I don't use one on my machines; haven't done since about 2004/5 and have only regretted it once. Having said this, i'm searching for a resource friendly av to install on peoples netbooks so I am currently triling avira.

Post 30 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Wednesday, 21-Oct-2009 21:49:55

how does avira compare with the othe avs out there?
